A Residential School for Divyang (children with disabilities), specifically for deaf children, was established at Chandur Railway on 01.07.1994. The institution received initial recognition on a non-grant basis on 09.10.1995. Later, on 06 May 1996, it was granted recognition on a grant-in-aid basis by the Director of Maharashtra State, Pune.
Initially, the school was recognized for classes from Balwadi (pre-primary) to Class 4. Hearing-impaired children from the age of three years have been admitted free of cost since then. Approval for natural progression up to Class 5 was granted on 10.05.2023 by the Honorable Commissioner, Divyang Welfare Commissionerate, Maharashtra State, Pune, and Class 5 was subsequently started.
Admission search campaigns are conducted in villages to identify hearing-impaired children. Parents are counseled and encouraged to enroll their children in the school. With parental consent, children undergo medical examination at the District General Hospital to confirm hearing impairment. As per government rules and disability percentage criteria, eligible students are granted free admission.
Students are provided with free educational materials, uniforms, accommodation, and other essential facilities.
The school follows special education methods focusing on language development and vocabulary enhancement. Speech therapy is provided for speech development, and teaching methods are adapted according to each student’s abilities. Daily living skills are taught to promote self-reliance, and guidance is provided to help students integrate confidently into society.
Counseling and personality development programs support mental and emotional growth. Parents are also provided with proper guidance and information. The school safeguards the educational and social rights of students with disabilities.
For overall development, students receive training in sign language, lip reading, speech therapy, and proper use of hearing aids. Creativity is encouraged through drawing and handicrafts, while sports and physical education promote physical fitness and team spirit.
